Dance Inspiration

I have probably mentioned this multiple times, but I have a big place in my heart for dance. I have been dancing ever since I started walking. I used to go to ballroom and show dance classes when I was a kid. But it was an off again on again relationship, since I was always told that I have a too heavy build for a dancer so I would usually not make the cut or I would be a background dancer. So for the most part it was a thing I liked doing but wasn't all that crazy about, because I knew it wouldn't be something I'd be doing  when I grew up. But in my teenage years I found a hip hop dance class and for three years I was obsessed with it. I would dance at home, when queuing in a shop, while walking home. Dancing became my second nature. I event went as far as entering competitions.
This was back in 2012, Lithuanian Open hip hop dance competition. So not only did our team make the choreo for it but we didn't know what song it would be. We were just told what kind of tempo and beat it would be. So I could say I have experience in building choreography.

But when I would dance I would always think how could combine my love of drawing and dance. I was deeply inspired by Ryan Woodwards Thoughts of You and as soon as I saw it I knew a dance animation would be my dream project. The dancers and choreographers I took most inspiration from were Sonya Tyeh, Travis Wall, Les Twins, Philip Cheeb a.k.a. Pacman, the Jabbawockeez. I will expand on these in later blog posts, but most of the routines, dancers and choreographers I like are from popular dance shows like So You Think You Can Dance, Americas Best Dance Crew or just hip hop dance videos. So the two genres I am most interested in are contemporary and hip hop (urban) dance. The reason I like these genres is that they not as much tied down by rules as for example ballet. Contemporary dance is very open for interpretation and you can crazy with it, using any music you like and it can be really creative with the choreography. I love hip hop because it is where self expressive dance meets rhythm.
So all in all I would love be involved both in dance and animation and I believe this could be a career direction I could explore.
